The 2007 breeding season will include Bernardini at stud in Australia. The gelding Texcess is headed to green pasture retirement after breaking a left hind stifle.

Darley Stallions to Australia

Bernardini, last year's three-year-old Preakness Stakes (gr. l) champion, will stand at sud for the Southern Hemisphere breeding season at Darley's facility in the Hunter valley of New South Wales. Joining Bernardini will be Henny Hughes and Librettist, who won multiple grade one races, and dual group one miler events, respectively.

A fourth Darley-owned stallion, Gonski, will shuttle to Darley, Victoria in Australia. Gonski is an Australian-bred, sired by Danehill.

Winninginexcess to Winton

Trained by Bob Baffert for his three professional starts, Winninginexcess was retired to stud at Pine Oak Farm in Carrollton, Ohio, in 2000. A sesamoid injury ended his racing efforts. The colt remained at Pine Oak until 2004.

He has been purchased by David and Suzanne Murphy of Winton Farm in Ocala. Mike Pegram bred and raced Winninginexcess in the three events before the colt's career-ending injury.

Winning by three lengths in his debut race, Winninginexcess returned for a second place finish in an allowance race, then ran second in the 1999 Zany Tactics Stakes. At 11 years of age, Winninginexcess has produced 11 foals, and one runner, Spirit of Winning. Earning $27,256, Spirit of Winning has 18 posts and three wins.

Winninginexcess is a full brother to Fun in Excess, a grade two-placed multiple stakes winner. His sire is the Irelander In Excess.

Fusaichi Rock Star to Indian Ridge

The five-year-old Fusaichi Rock Star, winner of two of nine posts in a three-year racing career, will stand at stud in 2007 at Indian Ridge Farm in Rayne, Louisiana. His live foal fee is $500.

Sired by Wild Wonder, Fusaichi Rock Star is a full brother to Wild Fit, a grade one winner.

Breeders of Fusaichi Rock Star's first two-year-old winners in 2010 and 2011 could receive incentives of $5,000 in bonuses. In addition, breeders of first foals from any crop to win a purse larger than $100,000 could also expect to see bonuses.

Texcess Well After Stifle Break

Sommer and Dave Showalter favored a foal named Texcess from the little fellow's birth at their Riverton Farm in Temecula, California. Now, at the Showalter's NexStar, Texcess will enjoy retirement in a green pasture.

He's earned it, the Showalters say, and they personally shipped the horse home from the track after the injury occurred in a workout gallop three weeks ago. The gelding's injury wasn't immediately apparent. It was feared he had suffered a broken pelvis, but in a few day's time, Texcess was able to bear his own weight. The injury was finally diagnosed as a broken stifle in his left hind leg.

Texcess, sired by In Excess, the Ireland stallion, is out of Danish Alamode, by Regal Classic. The five-year-old will have his own sign posted at NexStar by the Showalters at the same stall where he was foaled.

Texcess's total earnings are $1,235,335 from 22 starts. With four wins, the gelding earned $1 million in the Boyd Gaming Delta Jackpot Stakes alone in 2004 as a two-year-old. Also in 2004, Texcess scored in the California Cup Juvenile Stakes. In 2006, Texcess won the California Cup Classic Handicap, and placed second in two grade three races.

Texcess was originally purchased for $300,000 at the Barretts Equine Ltd. in 2006 by Scott and Wayne Anastasi and Carl Van Burger. He was trained by Mike Mitchell at Hollywood Park.

The gelding is a story with a feel good ending, as the Showalters have taken on the task to care for him for his remaining lifetime. Many thoroughbreds don't get this green pasture retirement.
